Welcome to Lung Foundation Australia's Peer Support Network

Join a peer support group in your community to connect, share, and encourage each other

Lung Foundation Australia is the only charity and leading peak body of its kind in Australia that funds life-changing research and delivers support services that give hope to people living with lung disease or lung cancer. Since 1990, we have been working to ensure lung health is a priority for all, from promoting lung health and early diagnosis, advocating for policy change and research investment, raising awareness about the symptoms and prevalence of lung disease and championing equitable access to treatment and care.

Why Peer Support?

Peer support is unique because it is support provided by people with similar lived experiences and empowers both the people giving and receiving information and support. Connecting with a peer support group can help people to work through some of the complex emotions that come with a lung disease or lung cancer diagnosis.

"“It was the first time in four years that I felt truly understood. We all knew each other’s issues and how it felt. I was empowered.”

– Lea, lives with NTM (Nontuberculous Mycobacteria Lung Disease).

Online Network Overview

Lung Foundation Australia are using the Mighty Networks platform to provide an opportunity for our peer support groups, championed by people with lived experience, to connect online with their fellow group members.

All groups in our Network are private and provide a safe and supportive space for members to discuss their thoughts and feelings, hold video chat meetings, hear from expert health professionals ,upload and share resources, create polls, and message each other.

By joining our Network you will be part of an online community with members from all across Australia. However, all member interactions and discussions will take place within  individual peer support groups only.

Joining a Group

Lung Foundation Australia welcome you to express your interest in joining one of our online peer support groups. Upon receiving your expression of interest our peer support team will contact you to discuss what peer support groups may be available for you, and connect you with the group leader who can invite you to join their group.

Our Network includes groups for people living with rare lung disease, chronic lung disease, long form COVID and groups dedicated to carers and loved ones.

Groups in our Online Network are invite only to ensure they remain private.

Our Peer Leaders

Our peer support groups are largely peer-led by volunteers with a lived experience of lung disease or lung cancer. Some groups are led by healthcare professionals passionate about supporting patients. Group leaders facilitate group activities and invite and welcome new members.

Group leaders do not provide counselling or medical advice.

Thank you to everyone who have dedicated time to facilitating a peer support group.
